As a seasoned commercial photographer, I thrive on challenging shoots and putting the puzzle pieces together (@thompaynenyc , sometimes quite literally, lol). Problem solving is big part of what I do. This wasn’t always true though; I had to learn to expect calls from photo editors like, “Let’s shoot these men’s fragrances with a bunch of snakes!” Or, “Let’s hire a graffiti artist to paint a wall and shoot some clothing on it!” And even, “We have size 19 men’s basketball sneakers and we want to shoot them in a refrigerator! What do you think?”
All of this with almost no budget! But I learned to not only enjoy this process but to thrive on it—the sourcing and the execution. Here are a few examples from that era… so you can see I’m really not exaggerating!! 😂😂
