Amidst all the stress and uncertainty everyone is feeling right now about our future, including small businesses like my own, I am taking stock in the present and feeling particularly blessed. My studio is in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen and is indefinitely – but not permanently – closed. Not only has my revenue stream completely ceased, so has the usual outlet for my creativity. But when I pay attention to the present moment, I am aware of how incredibly lucky I am. I have an amazing network of family and friends, and a career that has allowed me to show everyone a glimpse into how I see this world and the objects that surround us. While my business is shuttered, I am moving through my archives and reminding myself just how I got to this amazing place in life. I’m using this as an opportunity to show all of you what has been some of my favorite work, and introduce you to some of the people behind the photos.

And so, I begin with one of the first photos I took… circa 1992, Roxbury High School, Merle Dorlan’s class. This photo hangs in my kitchen to this day and I’m in love with its simplicity. Mr. Dorlan, perhaps best known as the men’s baseball coach, was also the photo teacher and an avid lover of photography. I can say with complete certainty that his enthusiasm and encouragement was what fostered my lifelong love of this art form. Take the time to say thanks to someone who made a difference. Merle Dorlan, you were that guy for me very early on. Thank you!
