Although I made the decision early in my career to focus on still life, I always had a special kind of love for architectural photography. Much like musicians and writers are compelled to make records of events, I always felt driven to explore old buildings and forgotten places, to give them a voice and let them say: we were here. The dilapidated downtown district of Asbury Park caught my heart in this way. I knew in the early 2000s the boardwalk was slated for massive renovations and would never look the same again. So off I went with my 4×5 camera and captured the broken down boardwalk buildings in all their graffitied glory. Can’t wait to see it bustling again someday very soon.
