What can happen in five seconds?

For HGTV’s latest on-air IDs, we created eight distinct worlds around its iconic logo, and we built and shot every one practically in our studio.

Five seconds is a funny amount of time.

On screen, it’s gone almost instantly. But behind those five seconds can be weeks of ideas, sketches, fabrication, problem-solving, set building, and a whole lot of people making something with their hands.

That’s what we loved about creating these new on-air IDs for HGTV.

For this project, we created eight completely different worlds around one very familiar logo.

Everything was created practically, by an incredible group of artists and craftspeople, and then brought to life through motion control, high-speed cinematography, video and photography.

Projects like this are a good reminder of why we love what we do.

For us, directing has never been only about where to put the camera. It’s about building the world in front of it. It’s collaborating with talented people who know how to turn an idea on paper into something real, and then finding that little bit of magic that happens when the lights come on and the camera starts rolling.
