Winter Cocktail: Negronis

Love it or hate it, people have strong feelings about the bitter Italian aperitif, Compari.  I love this cocktail in winter as it warms your belly and brings thoughts of Italian romantic get-a-ways.  And (!!) David and I leave for Florence, Italy tonight!  A perfect beverage for quick packing then hopping on a plane.


  • 3/4 cup gin
  • 3/4 cup Campari
  • 3/4 cup sweet vermouth
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 6 strips orange zest (about 1/2 in. by 3 in. each)


  1. In a large cocktail shaker or pitcher, combine gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Add ice cubes and stir or shake until mixture is cold. Strain into 6 cocktail glasses. Over each glass, twist an orange zest strip to release its oils and drop into glass. Serve immediately.
