While the finding of thousands of negatives and hundreds of undeveloped rolls of film abandoned in a storage locker might seem like the beginning of a fascinating story, it’s actually but a mere detail in this one. The story of Vivian Maier has been a work in progress since the moment she picked up a camera and apparently never let anyone know about it. What she captured was a gorgeous collection of life as art that no one knew about until that aforementioned discovery.
The questions that this intriguing story begets are endless: What drove this woman to secretively and obsessively journal the world around her with a camera? Did she know how gorgeously she had accomplished this? Why did she not share her art with the world? Would she indeed be upset with the attention her work is now receiving?
