“The Secret Life of Swimmers” by Judy Starkman

Two things that we can say about Judy – she is fascinated with people and passionate about swimming.  She leveraged them both to create her engaging portrait series “The Secret Life of Swimmers” which explores the unique group that gathers at the Culver City Plunge Pool. Blake, who is featured below, is a Professor of English by day and a swimmer by dawn. He’s one of many who flock to the pool, amongst them a chef, teacher, filmmaker, truck driver and veterinarian. The series celebrates the discovery of a common ground between a diverse group of people in a public space.

This body of work has been featured in Esquire Spain, CNN iReport, Public Art Review and on the KTLA Morning News. If you’re in Los Angeles, check out the public installation of the images along Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City or feel free to visit “The Secret Life of Swimmers” blog.
