Public Transit is part character study, part fashion piece and part social commentary. One execution takes place in modern day and the other 60 years previous, styled and shot as though it were 1957. This ongoing series is the product of photographer Lindsay Siu. She collaborated with makeup artist Anya Ellis and retoucher Istvan Pinter with the goal of creating thoughtful images that depict life on public transit during different time periods throughout recent history.
The nine individuals in the series will appear in all executions of the project, but are represented differently in each time period. So far, the project has already won one major award with it’s inclusion in the Applied Arts Photography Annual for 2018.
Photographer Lindsay Siu hails from Vancouver where she specializes in people, conceptual, beauty, advertising and editorial photography, all with a focus on telling stories, and using a clean and modern visual aesthetic. She was recently nominated as one of the Best 200 Ad Photographers Worldwide 2018/19 and holds a BA in Art History and Studio Arts from the University of British Columbia.
