Chris Crisman shares how throwing a javelin prepared him for being a photographer.

When you first start representing a photographer, the to do list is very long.  The item that keeps falling to the bottom is getting to know him/her better.  Conversations about marketing plans, source book ads, strategies, mailing lists all take up the time instead.  Over time of course, little bits of information is shared and soon enough we have a picture of who the person behind the lens is.

Well, we haven’t been representing Chris Crisman very long, but every time we have a chance to get to know him better, we like him even more.

In a recent interview with him, Alison McCreery of POP Blog said, “…if I had to sum him up in one word it would be ‘generous.’ He refers to his business/studio as ‘we’ instead of ‘I’ .”  Thank you Alison for sharing what we have come to understand about Chris.  He is not only a generous photographer, mentor and business owner but as we have also learned a very generous friend.

The interview is full of great insight into Chris; where he came from, his influences and what inspires him.  It reads unlike a typical interview.  I particularly like how he connects his experience with competitive sports growing up to his passion and discipline with photography.  Who would have thought javelin throwing and photography could be so connected?
